The quaich is polished by hand using linseed oil, accentuating the natural beauty of the wood.

The word quaich is derived from the Gaelic word "cuach" which means shallow cup or as we know it today, a drinking cup of friendship. This is often given as a traditional Scottish gift at weddings.
